A little help for your city
Keep your city growing.
From your first road to your next big neighborhood. Find the guidance you need, then get back to building.
Small beginnings. Big possibilities.
Create a new city, give it a name and leave the optional tutorial on for a guided start. Hold your device in landscape.
Make a connection
Choose Zones → Road. Tap a start tile, tap an end tile, review the route, then tap Build. Buildings need a road along a side.
Bring the essentials
Add a Wind turbine and a Water tower from Utilities. Give the tower road access and power. Place your first Residential plots nearby.
Let your city grow
New cities start paused. Tap Play at the top right to start development. Follow City tips for waste, sewage, services and your next steps.
Build with a little breathing room. Start with a small neighborhood and watch monthly upkeep before expanding. You can pause while you plan.

Building & utilities
How do I build and move around on a touchscreen?
Swipe across the building cards to browse, then tap a card to choose a building. Tap a tile once to preview; tap anywhere inside the highlighted site again to build. A tile outside the highlighted site moves the preview.
Drag the map to pan and pinch to zoom. Streets, Power lines and Water pipes use a start point and an end point, followed by Build. Cancel or × discards the preview. The build tray’s chevron hides the building cards for more room.
Why aren’t my homes or shops developing?
First, make sure the game is playing. Tap the plot to see its requirements. Check road access, connected power, water, sewage capacity and demand. Later development also needs appropriate services.
A road must touch a side of the site; a diagonal corner does not count. Commercial unlocks at 75 residents and needs commercial demand. Supplied plots develop over time, so give the city a few months.
My city has spare electricity. Why is a building unpowered?
Electricity needs to reach the building’s own connected grid. Spare capacity in a separate grid cannot supply it.
- Generators serve nearby buildings within four tiles.
- Start Power lines at a generator and connect each tile side to side. Gaps and diagonal corners do not connect.
- Connect a Substation to extend distribution around a neighborhood. It distributes power; it does not generate any.
- If that grid is overloaded, connect more generation to the same grid.
Lines on streets are hidden in the normal view. Select Power lines to inspect existing connections.
How do water pipes and sewage treatment work?
A Water tower needs power and road access. A Water pump also needs shoreline access. Water pipes must connect side to side from an operating source; isolated pipes do not carry water.
Your first pipe activates local pipe coverage across the city. Connect existing neighborhoods too. More pipes extend reach, but a capacity shortage needs another operating water source.
Sewage is separate. Add a powered, road-connected Treatment plant as the city outgrows its starting septic capacity. Treatment does not supply drinking water.
What do buses and trains need to run?
For buses, provide an operating, powered Transit depot and at least two powered, road-connected Bus stops on the same road network.
For trains, connect at least two powered Rail stations with continuous tracks and give the stations road access. Use Rail bridges to cross water. Working public transport serves nearby development and reduces car demand.
What does the CO₂ indicator mean?
CO₂ awareness estimates your city’s emissions from buildings, energy and transport, with estimated absorption from trees. The indicator compares emissions with population; the color and text describe how the city is doing.
Renewable power, working public transport and climate policies can change the estimate. Building information explains estimated emissions. See City management → Climate for the method and sources.
These are educational estimates, not a measured carbon inventory. CO₂ awareness is optional and can be turned off in the in-game menu.
Saves & settings
How do I save or return to an older city?
Autosave is enabled by default. It saves changes every 30 seconds and when leaving your city. Change it in Settings, or save manually by opening your city name at the top left and choosing Save city.
Load city lists the cities saved on this device. Each city has its own slot, so saving a new city keeps the others. Continue city opens the last saved city.
Can I back up a city or move it to another device?
Yes. Open the in-game menu and choose Export save to make a separate save file. Keep a copy in a location you control. On the other device, use Import save, then save the imported city.
Saves do not automatically sync between devices. Export before deleting or reinstalling the app, because uninstalling removes its local saves. A city without an exported copy or a suitable device backup may not be recoverable.
How do I pause or return to normal speed?
The top-right Play / Pause button controls the clock. Pause also stops traffic. Tap the speed beside it and choose Normal (1×), 2×, 4× or 8×.
You can return to Normal from any speed. Reading management and tutorial panels pauses time so you can plan.
Can I turn off tips, sound or extra animations?
Close City tips with ×, and enable them again in Settings. The new-city screen lets you skip the introductory tutorial.
Settings also includes reduced motion and separate controls for music, sound effects and ambience. Adjust the game’s volume controls as well as your device volume.
Do I need an internet connection or an account?
No. Verdant City is an offline, single-player game with no sign-in. Your city names, progress and settings are stored on your device and are not uploaded to a developer server.
If you choose to open an external reference, or transfer a save using an online service, that action may need an internet connection. The game itself does not automatically sync your cities.
Troubleshooting
The app opens to a black screen or closes unexpectedly.
Close and reopen the app, then restart your device if needed. Check for a game update, keep sufficient device storage available, and try again.
If the menu opens, try a different saved city to see whether the problem affects one city or the whole app. Do not delete the app as a first step. Export accessible saves before considering a reinstall.
The map feels slow or touch controls don’t respond.
Return to Normal (1×), zoom out a little and try reduced motion in Settings. Close any open dialog before navigating the map, and hide the build tray for more space.
Use a drag to pan, a pinch to zoom, or a second tap inside the highlighted site to confirm a building. If controls remain unresponsive, save if possible and reopen the app. If the device is warm, let it cool before continuing.
A city is missing from Load city. What can I check?
Check that you are using the device where the city was saved. Load city shows local saves, not a cloud library. A city played on another device must be exported and imported.
If you have an exported save, use Import save. If you reinstalled without a separate backup, there is no developer-hosted copy to restore. Avoid deleting the app while investigating a save problem.
My city is running out of money. What should I do?
Pause and review the Monthly budget. Construction costs are paid immediately, while roads, utilities and services also have ongoing upkeep. Expand in stages and let existing neighborhoods develop.
City management offers Budget → Municipal loans when you need a loan. Read the repayments first; borrowing also adds future costs. City tips can guide you to the loan options.

Still need a hand?
Send a question, report a bug or share an idea for your city. For a technical problem, include your device model, iOS or iPadOS version, app version and what happened. A screenshot can help.
